Elegant White on White Card with a Pop of Color Using an Inlaid Die Cut Technique (Video)

White on white cards are one of my favorite styles for creating elegant handmade cards. By layering shades of white cardstock and adding just a small pop of color, you can create a design that feels both clean and eye-catching. Do you happen to recognize this layout?

Today’s project is actually a reimagined version of a card (pictured on right) I originally shared in April of 2024 (see the original post HERE). The dies I used for that card have since retired, but I’ve recreated the same beautiful effect using an inlaid die cut technique with the Pretty Florals Dies.

The result is a white on white card with a pop of Petunia Pop color showing through the design — and the technique can easily be recreated using dies you already own.

Why This Technique is Useful

One question I hear often from cardmakers is:

“What do I do when the dies used in a project are no longer available?”

Instead of recreating the card exactly the same way, sometimes the solution is to recreate the appearance using a different technique.

In this case, the inlaid die cut technique allows us to create the illusion of a detailed cut-out design while still using dies that are currently available.

This approach is a great way to:

• stretch the supplies you already own
• recreate looks you love
• build your creative problem-solving skills

Card Design Details

For this version of the project, I kept the same elegant layered look but made a few changes.

The card features:

• layered white cardstock panels
• a soft vellum layer for added texture
• a bold Petunia Pop color showing through the floral design
• an inlaid floral die cut for dimension and detail

The result is a clean and elegant card design that works for many occasions.

White on white cards are a beautiful way to create elegant handmade cards without needing a lot of supplies.

By adding just a small pop of color behind the design, the card instantly becomes more eye-catching while still keeping the soft layered look.

I hope this project inspires you to look at your dies in new ways and experiment with techniques that help you stretch your supplies.

• 5-1/2” x 8-1/2” Thick Basic White CS
• (2) 4-3/4” x 3-1/2” Vellum
• (2) 4-1/4” x 3” Basic White CS
• 4” x 2-3/4” Basic White CS- die cut
• 2” x 6-1/2” Thick Basic White CS
• 2-5/8” x 2-5/8” Petunia Pop CS
